Dr. João Bacalhau, a medical doctor, founder and Chairman of Group Hospital Particular do Algarve and involved for decades in tourism, soon identified some of the shortcomings and difficulties in medical care that was provided to the vast majority of tourists seeking the Algarve as a holiday destination.

It was in this context that the idea emerged of creating a health unit in the image of the excellent service provided by the hotel accommodation in the Algarve, focused on the clients and their wellbeing, providing differentiation in medical care and technology, hitherto non-existent in this region.

Founded on solid grounds with diverse multilingual professionals of various nationalities, the Hospital Particular do Algarve has cultivated a philosophy of patient service, constantly innovating and promoting quality policies of wellbeing for all.

“Because your health is of particular importance” is a motto that is assimilated by all employees of the Hospital Particular do Algarve, the group has been involved not only in treating the disease, but also has policies to promote health by creating departments of minimally invasive early diagnosis in a wide range of diseases, creating awareness in the local population, promoting health care and prevention.

EXPERIENCE IN HEALTH TOURISM SINCE 1996

Inaugurated in 1996 in Alvor, close to Praia da Rocha, the Hospital Particular do Algarve has modern facilities, is well equipped and technologically advanced, providing a health asset, both regionally and nationally.

Covering the most diverse areas and specific characteristics of health care, with a 24 hours service and qualified medical staff in most specialties, Hospital Particular do Algarve offers differentiated medical services to the resident population and also to the thousands of tourists who choose the Algarve as their holiday destination all year round.

With continued growth throughout the years, the result of a philosophy of patient orientated care, the Group has been progressively expanding its geographical influence across the Algarve, with units in Alvor, Portimão, Monchique, Albufeira, Vilamoura and Faro.

With this distribution, we guarantee top of the range hospitals throughout the Algarve in the main cities where the majority of the population of the region resides. In order to ensure a closer proximity a network of clinics was created, where it is possible to undergo a comprehensive range of tests and outpatient
surgical procedures as well as most specialist consultations.

To ensure a connection between all the units within a short period of time, so that the distance between them is not problematic, we have a network of ambulances equipped with the necessary life support technology.

To ensure the continuity of data and all the information, we have a technological network that interconnects all the units within the Group. Clinical support is therefore guaranteed regardless of the location of the patient.

A diagnosis may be reached in real time, by the appropriate specialist from any one of the units, regardless of where the test is carried out. The clinical decision is swift supported by the specialist that is most experienced in the particular field, guaranteeing a substantial improvement and a top quality health care.
