Lower Limb Angioplasty

Angioplastia dos membros inferiores

Lower limb angioplasty is a vascular surgical procedure designed to unblock the arteries in the legs. During this procedure, a catheter with a balloon at the end is inserted into the obstructed artery. The balloon is then inflated to widen the artery, allowing blood flow to be restored.

This surgery is recommended when clinical treatment fails to manage symptoms of claudication in the lower limbs, which include feelings of heaviness and pain in the legs. The pain is usually triggered by walking or climbing inclines and tends to subside with rest.

Before undergoing the surgery, specialists must review all prior medical exams, and it is recommended to pause any medication that might interfere with blood coagulation.

Post-procedure, it is crucial to rest and avoid strenuous activities in the following days. Additionally, adopting a healthier diet is also advised.
