Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS)

MGUS

MGUS refers to the presence of abnormal proteins (monoclonal immunoglobulins) in the blood, produced by plasma cells derived from B lymphocytes. These proteins typically do not cause immediate harm but can sometimes progress to more serious conditions, such as multiple myeloma, lymphoma, or amyloidosis.

MGUS is usually benign and asymptomatic, often discovered during routine blood tests. Diagnosis is based on protein levels and the absence of severe disease indicators, such as bone lesions, kidney failure, or anaemia.

While MGUS doesn't require immediate treatment, regular monitoring through periodic exams is crucial to detect potential changes.
