Benign White Blood Cell Disorders

Benign White Blood Cell Disorders

Benign white blood cell (WBC) disorders are variations in the number or type of WBCs that, while often reflecting responses to infections, inflammation, or allergic reactions, do not indicate malignancy. These may include leukocytosis (increased WBCs) or leukopenia (reduced WBCs), which can also result from physical or emotional stress, intense exercise, or specific medications.

If caused by an infection, treatment typically involves antibiotics or antivirals. For allergic or inflammatory reactions, anti-inflammatories or antihistamines are used. Symptoms are often mild, temporary, or absent but can include fatigue, mild fever, and muscle or joint pain.
